Sailing so chilled the sailors lay down

Welcome to Duckpunt.org.uk

This site will be used for the Punters to keep tabs on whats new in the punting world and also inform any one who's interested, as to what the punters are up to.

Welcome to Duckpunt.org.uk

Who is building or has completed a recent build of a Punt?

Over the last few years there have been a number of post by potential builders of the Duck Punt.  Dylan Winter has built his version of the Duck Punt and this inspired me to build one too for sailing along the Colorado River in the California desert.  It would be great if other builders would share their  building news.

Plans for a John Milgate West Mersea gunpunt

I first came accross these gun punts back in July 2001 in an article about John Milgate in New Woodworking, and they held a facination for me. At that time I was an avid wildfowler with a facination towards building a punt. While I still shoot a little my interest in making one of these punts has not waned.

I still have the magazine and inside are the telephone numbers I called to try and contact someone to get some plans to make one of these punts, without sucess, and here I am some 81/2 years later still trying to locate the same plans.

Insurance

Hi all I dont know what if anything enyone does about insurance but I have been talking to Paul Goslng and he can arrange fully comp insurance for the punts for about £36, this includes three million quid third party ( I think thats the important bit) but would says it would be better to get a group scheme like the brigs have. anyone interested give me a ring on 07770 520 737.  Joe

Duckpunt Olympics

With the London 2012 Olympics fast approaching it is probably a good time to discuss any plans we have to celebrate the event.  Although Punt racing normally takes place in the winter i think the summer olympics would be more appropriate.  I thought it would be a good idea if we all adopt a country and stage our own sailing regatta.  This may be a good way of trying to get duckpunting as an official olympic sport for 2020!!

Tags and Ruben Mast-debate

There has been some contaversy regarding these two punters and the stiffness of their poles!!  I for one do not believe that it gives them a performance advantage.  I also feel that any development of the class should be encouraged assuming it is within the rules and public decency.  However we must ensure this mast-debate does'nt get out of hand....
